When someone says “internet fax service,” your first reaction is probably to pause and ask if the speaker really knows what they’re talking about. Big smelly fax machines are a staple in most businesses and home offices, and the sound of a fax machine whirring as it scans the document and pipes it over land-based telephone lines is one that most everyone has heard at one point in their lives. Faxing is so common that copy shops incorporate it as part of their services, charging a quarter or more per page for faxes.

Online faxing has reached a new level of maturity, having become almost commoditized. This is no surprise; given the vast amount of things you can do on the internet, online faxing is a natural fit. The ubiquity of PDAs and smart phones lends even more fuel to the fire of online faxing – who needs to be constrained by wires and specialized, bulky machines?
